ACC Charter

The Central Murray region is a vast area which stretches across the Murray River and encompasses areas of Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales. The region covers ten local government areas including Campaspe, Gannawarra and Swan Hill in Victoria, and Balranald, Berrigan, Conargo, Deniliquin, Jerilderie, Murray and Wakool in New South Wales.

The region extends from Rushworth in the south to Robinvale/Euston in the north-west and east across to Jerilderie and Barooga. It is an area of 62,000 sq kms with a population of approximately 104,259 people (ABS Estimated resident population as at 30 June 2007).

We believe that the Central Murray area is ‘A Region Alive with Opportunity’. The region is bordered by the Goulburn Valley and Sunraysia districts and is part of the most significant food production region in Australia. It is culturally diverse, with a significant Indigenous heritage and a rich agricultural history. A multitude of industries within our region including agriculture, viticulture, floriculture, aquaculture, croping, food processing, manufacturing, construction, retail, hospitality and importantly tourism, form the intrinsic basis of our local economy.

There are a number of icons within the region, including the Murray River which flows through the heart of the area, dividing Victoria and New South Wales, the Campaspe Murrumbidge, Goulburn and Edward Rivers, the historic River Port in Echuca, Barmah-Milewa forest, Gunbower Koondrook-Perricoota Forest, Rushworth State Forest, Barmah wetlands, Hay Plains, Mungo National Park, Torrumbarry Weir, and many other landmarks which are unique to the Central Murray.
